Tooth Extraction

Getting a tooth extracted

While it is usually preferable to have all of the natural teeth remain in the mouth, it is sometimes in the best interest of the patient to remove one or more teeth to improve oral health. Sometimes, injury or decay necessitates a tooth’s removal; other times, a tooth may require removal as a part of oral surgery or orthodontic treatment. In other cases, one or more teeth are removed to prevent future oral health complications, such as the removal of wisdom teeth.

Removing a tooth, also known as tooth extraction, is a very common oral surgery treatment. Drs. Zarrinkelk and Dr. Siavash are experienced oral surgeons that offer the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery treatments at their practices in Ventura and Ojai, CA, including tooth extraction. When you come to Greater Ventura Oral & Facial Surgery, our friendly and knowledgeable team will make you feel welcome, safe, and informed throughout your treatment. A treatment plan will be created just for you by one of our experienced oral surgeons.

If an extracted tooth needs to be replaced, your oral surgeon will discuss your options for tooth replacement. At Greater Ventura Oral & Facial Surgery, Dr. Zarrinkelk and Dr. Siavash specialize in implant-based tooth replacement, such as single dental implants and the All-On-4 treatment concept. Depending on your unique needs, we will map out a customized treatment option just for you.

Local anesthesia is commonly used for a routine tooth extraction; however, all of your options to keep you comfortable will be discussed with you as we go over your treatment plan.

Why tooth extraction?

Most of the time, a tooth needs to be removed for one of two reasons: the tooth cannot be saved, or the poor health of the tooth is compromising or posing a risk to the health of other teeth in the mouth. However, there are many reasons why a tooth may need to be removed:

  • Decay
  • Infection
  • Dental crowding
  • Periodontal (gum) disease
  • Injury or trauma
  • Impaction
  • Malformed teeth
  • Root canal failure
  • Preparing the mouth for other treatments, such as pre-prosthetic surgery, dental implants, or orthodontic treatments

Greater Ventura Oral & Facial Surgery is committed to providing oral surgery treatments to patients of all ages. Drs. Zarrinkelk and Siavash are experienced oral surgeons who prioritize the comfort and safety of their patients as they improve oral health outcomes.
