Skin Rejuvenation

Do I need Skin Rejuventation?

Skin resurfacing procedures can improve the appearance of the skin.  Skin type and color, ethnic background, and age are important factors that should be discussed prior to surgery.

Chemical peel is helpful for wrinkles, light acne scarring and irregular pigmentation such as freckles and age spots. Pre-cancerous conditions such as keratoses (thick, rough, reddish growths) also respond well to this procedure. There are several types of chemical peels: Light peels remove superficial wrinkles, medium peels and deep peels are for more severe conditions.

Laser Skin Resurfacing is used to reduce tiny wrinkles, acne scars and other minor skin imperfections, especially around the mouth and eyes. It can improve sun-damaged and acne scarred skin problems that often cause concern for men and women.  Laser light penetrates to a very precise, controlled depth, making the procedure safe and predictable, while reducing the risk of scarring or pigmentation problems.

Who is a Candidate for Skin Rejuvenation?

  • If you have wrinkles, light acne scarring and irregular pigmentation.
  • If you have acne scars and other minor skin imperfections.
  • If you wish to enhance the cosmetic result as an adjunct to other plastic surgery procedure in the face and neck.

Types of Skin Rejuvenation

Chemical Peels

  • Before any peel, the face is first thoroughly cleansed with a solution to remove oil and to prepare the skin for deepest penetration.
  • As the chemical solution is applied, the epidermis is removed, and the chemical penetrates into the first layer of the dermis.
  • Immediately following a chemical peel, the surgeon may apply a dressing to your skin. Swelling and “crusting” of the skin are normal, and ointments to keep the skin supple will be applied for seven to 10 days following surgery.
  • The redness of skin that persists after the initial healing phase will usually fade in about 4 weeks.
  • Apply sunblock in order to protect the skin while new pigment is created.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

  • The skin is usually pretreated prior to surgery to improve the healing time.
  • A local anesthetic is given to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the procedure.
  • The laser is used to precisely vaporize the outermost layers of skin.
  • This technique has minimal post-operative pain and a quick recovery time.
  • The initial redness fades in a few weeks to a light pink.
  • The discoloration usually disappears in first 2 months.
  • Apply sunblock in order to protect the skin while new pigment is created.
